The Court Youth Company Kicks Off

“What kind of system drives someone so far to the edge?!”

Recently The Shed was host to a welcome for the 2022 Court Youth Company. These new, young faces were spotted in The Court Theatre’s Pub Charity Studio throughout February as the Youth Company starts its work in preparation for their production Katzenmusik, on-stage in early September.

Each year The Court establishes a Youth Company, which provides training and performance experience for young performers aged 17 – 21. It offers an opportunity for young actors to train and be exposed to high-quality theatre-making and take the next step in their performing arts education.

After the second round of auditions were held in January this year, 20 young theatre practitioners were chosen to form The Court Youth Company of 2022. They will meet twice a week for three hours each session to learn and practice theatrical skills taught by a range of tutors, including members of The Court’s artistic team and visiting practitioners.

The Youth Company show for 2022 is Katzenmusik, a darkly comedic drama by Tom Fowler. A small town is pushed to its limits due to the ever-increasing divide between the rich and poor. As the working class prepare to fight back for the sake of their community, their questionable actions risk landing them in a worse position than where they started. Will all this be worth it? Or will it just fall on deaf ears?

Katzenmusik is The Court Youth Company’s exclusive production in this Ryman Healthcare 2022 season and audiences can expect a fast-paced and thrilling performance with young people really pushing themselves to their limits.
