Our plans for a wonderful start to the Ryman Healthcare 2022 Season may have been somewhat derailed by Covid-19 but – of course – the Company has creatively responded to the situation and, with some deft planning and re-scheduling, has avoided any cancellations.
The day before their planned opening night, the cast of Flagons and Foxtrots completed their rehearsals and The Court staff were treated to a preview of the production. It was wonderful to see this play, which was planned to open the season but which will now take a slot later in the year, on the stage. This is nostalgic Kiwi comedy at its best and it is wonderful that it can still be a central part of the 2022 season. The exact dates for Flagons and Foxtrots are to be confirmed so watch this space.
Whilst Sense and Sensibility and Next to Normal are both moving to the 2023 season, The Girl on the Train currently looks set to open the revised season in May and will commence rehearsals in April. The Court is very pleased to be welcoming back the Director of 2021’s Frankenstein, Holly Chappell, to direct this mysterious thriller. “I am incredibly excited to be bringing The Girl on the Train to the stage this year. Being able to create theatre at the moment feels like a true gift” says Holly.
For those of you not familiar with the novel and the movie, The Girl on the Train tells the story of Rachel, a 30-something whose life has taken a downward track since her marriage broke down and her drinking ramped up. On her train journeys each day, she becomes increasingly fixated on a couple she sees from the train window. With shades of Rear Window, Holly describes The Girl on the Train as “a heart-racing mystery thriller that dives into the world of desire, secrets and lies. I cannot wait to play in this world and bring the journey of this show to The Court audiences.” Hitting the stage in May, this show is guaranteed to be a must-see.
