Future-Focussed

It may be only February 2022, but our new Artistic Team are already eyes deep in plays for the 2023 season.

Artistic Director Dr. Alison Walls and her team are looking for the perfect combination to complement Sense and Sensibility and Next to Normal, the two plays you already know will feature next year. Both plays have been casualties of Covid-19 but will take pride of place in 2023 and, of course, there will be a lot more to look forward to.

Members of our Artistic and Production teams work with Alison in shortlisting the season’s prospects. This involves reading many diverse scripts, then narrowing these down to deliver a jigsaw of pieces that everyone can relate to in some way.

A definite favourite so far is the preferred summer musical, “a really fun musical that celebrates the musical genre itself” says Alison. Rounding out the selection will be “edgy comedies, heartfelt dramas and the spotlight on New Zealand artists and stories.”

The season won’t be completed for several months – especially as the current season has required its own unplanned revisions – but Alison says that you can expect it to “give our audiences what we know they love and also surprise them with something a little new.”
