From The Chair - March 2022

Dear Friends,

Happy new year to you all. I hope you had a refreshing holiday break before we tumbled into this new stage of Covid.

There is a real sense of déjà vu pervading. There has been the postponement of Flagons and Foxtrots and other shows, but we have fingers crossed we will see them return very soon. I was lucky enough to see the dress rehearsal of Flagons and Foxtrots before it went on ice. It was very clever and funny and set in my home village of Ohoka so, when it does ‘defrost’, I can thoroughly recommend seeing it.

Things have been changing by the day at the Theatre leaving a huge burden on both management and the artists who are forever trying to adjust. We are so grateful for their commitment.

We were very sad to see Dan Pengelly our Artistic Director resign before Christmas. Dan has been a big part of the Court for three years and provided us with a sell-out programme for seven shows in a row in 2021 before the dreaded Covid set in. We are so grateful for all the joy he has been instrumental in bringing to us. Thank you, Dan.

In December we had our annual morning in Ohoka with over one hundred members coming out to the Farmers’ Market and then a coffee and wander around Richard's and my garden. The committee stayed on and we enjoyed an end-of-year festive lunch together. I’m pleased to say the gardening gloves came off for a while and I have had a decadent holiday in the sun in Kaiteriteri with the family.

We are so grateful to the members for their ongoing support and the generous donations so many of you have given with your subscriptions. This support is even more appreciated in these tough times for The Court. Thank you so much.

Our AGM is still planned for 11th April at 7:30 in the Foyer and further notice will be supplied before this date.

Keep safe and my thoughts are with you as we battle on with Covid.

Ngā mihi

Annie
