Artistic Team 2022 Announced

Kia ora e te whānau,

We have put together a new interim Artistic team, one that can respond well to our strategic direction and the challenges that the year ahead will certainly bring us, and we are glad to formally introduce them to you.

Fortunately, we have many skilled people within our staff whānau! With their insight and experience, we believe that we have created a team that can drive the artistic vision for The Court through to February 2023. Our new Artistic team are:

Artistic Director – Dr. Alison Walls Associate Artistic Director – Vanessa Karakia-Kore Gray

Artistic Advisor – Ross Gumbley Jesters Artistic Manager – Trubie-Dylan Smith

This team will give us kaitiaki (guardianship) through the ongoing disruption of Covid-19 and, hopefully, some time to start to see what our new ‘business as usual’ will be.

We also need time to consider the next Artistic Director incumbent, who will build the Artistic team that will take us through the transition into our new home. We expect to begin that process in about August 2022.

Dr. Alison Walls, the interim Artistic Director, has been with us since late 2021 as Education and Outreach Manager and is very much looking forward to this new challenge, saying: “I am absolutely thrilled to take on this new role in a company I already love, and at a theatre like The Court that is dedicated to—and known for—creating superb theatre. I am deeply grateful to AD Dan Pengelly for his achievements in the past two years and I am excited to build on his mahi (work).”

We are excited to announce this new team and confident that it will keep driving ahead the artistic vision for The Court Theatre.
