Dear Friends
The success on the stage seems to be unstoppable and we are extremely proud to say that with the end of Once we have had five consecutive shows that have been completely sold out. A record. The joy and escapism we find at The Court seems to be an insulating bubble in this rather depressing and troubling world. Covid, floods, shootings and hardship for so many.
I’m really thrilled to share with you the great news that Tony Feaver is the new Chair of the Trust Board. He has been part of the Friends Committee since 2018 so will be a true advocate for us. Steven van der Pol’s tenure as the chair ceased in May but he will remain as part of the Board for a little longer to help with the new build.
I discovered lately that the lyrics for Moana Jr, Hamilton and The Heights were all written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. So, following the excitement of the fabulous show Moana Jr at the Court and the constant singing of the song “You’re welcome” by my small grandchildren, I decided to branch out and see the new film The Heights. Unfortunately
rap was not to my husband’s taste and it wasn’t until we attended the far more traditional opera The Marriage of Figaro the following night that all was forgiven. It did make me reflect just how lucky we are in Christchurch to have so much world class entertainment so readily available. We really are spoilt for choice although I dare not speak of it to family members living in Sydney and Hong Kong who are really doing it hard.
The winter is slowly passing and I’m busy pruning my roses in anticipation of your visit here when they are in full bloom and its wonderful summer again.
Ngā mihi
Annie Bonifant
