It is with great joy that we have welcomed the cast and production team of The Girl on the Train into the Shed. Director Holly Chappell has assembled a superb cast and the work from the design team promises a visually compelling and atmospheric production that completely captures the world of The Girl on the Train in an original and innovative theatrical experience. It is going to be modern, suspenseful, and truly entertaining.
As Barbara noted, we have our 2023 Season planned! We are so happy to include Sense and Sensibility and Next to Normal along with truly exciting works from Aotearoa New Zealand and abroad. These plays are all quite unique but are alike in being exceptional works with daring and heart. Without saying too much, we are bringing a number of New Zealand premieres to The Court. The match-making work of pairing the right artists with the right shows is now underway. We love these works and know that our actors, directors and designers will be eager to bring them to life for our audiences.
Alongside our mainstage programming, we are developing a three or four-day event to foster and engage with Māori and Pasifika theatre artists, writers and companies. We expect this to include staged readings and performance elements, workshops and panels.
Our Education and Outreach programme continues at strength, including all our regular classes in drama and improvisation. The Youth Company will soon be starting rehearsals for Katzenmusik, which I am thrilled to be directing. Our Associate Artistic Director and Kaihautū Ahurea (Cultural Director) Vanessa Karakia-Kore Gray is co-directing Māui me te Rā with Tom Eason to tour Canterbury primary schools in Term 3.
We are back to doing what we love the most – making theatre!
